Lawyers and Insurance companies inevitably confront vehicle collision cases where the cause or liability is unclear. In a vehicle collision investigation, a collision reconstructionist can play a crucial role in assessing not only why the collision happened but who is liable. Accident reconstruction is a valuable procedure in discovering what you, your lawyer, and a jury would need to know about a collision. Collision Reconstructionist use a wide number of methodologies and technologies to figure out what elements played a part in the collision, and to analyze the investigation to ensure that it was done properly.
Hugh Dixon is retired from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol where the last seven years of his career he was assigned to the collision reconstruction unit out of the Fayetteville office. In his career he has investigated collisions ranging from parking lot fender benders to second degree murder cases. Hugh understands and is experienced in collecting and preserving scene evidence and is familiar with all of the latest technology that is used to collect and process scene evidence. He is a certified collision reconstructionist with 23 years of investigating collisions. Hugh has also received advanced training in investigating pedestrian and motorcycle collisions. Modern vehicles are equipped with event data recorders (also known as the black box) that store information about the vehicle leading up to the collision. Hugh is certified as an event data recorder technician and an event data recorder analyst with the equipment to download the event data recorder and interpret the data obtained. Hugh has extensive experience in interviewing individuals involved in and that have witnessed collisions. Prior to serving on the North Carolina Highway Patrol, he was a National Registered EMT Paramedic, and has been responding as a first responder to vehicle collisions for over 35 years and has maintained his North Carolina EMT. He can evaluate victims’ medical records to determine the consistency of injuries with the available evidence. Hugh is familiar with all the latest technology used to collect and process scene evidence. He is a certified drone operator with the capability to take overhead photographs, videos, or orthomosiac photographs of a collision scene or any other desired location.
